Vidalia Onion

Virginia Brand Vidalia Onion Dressing

A salad isn't complete without the perfect dressing. This dressing shouldn't overpower the taste of the veggies and other ingredients making up your salad, but it should still have a distinct and delicious taste that keeps you coming back for more. Vidalia Onion Dressing is a versatile topping that you can use as a salad dressing, dip or marinade. Grab this dressing to soak your favorite chicken and fish in flavor, to dip your favorite veggies or simply to liven up a dish. However you choose to use it, it's sure to add the perfect touch to your food.

Creating the perfect salad

In order for your salad dressing to complement your salad in the best way, it must be prepared correctly.

Choose the right greens: When building salads, try to rotate salad greens. It's easy to get stuck in a rut and continue to buy the same greens week after week. Experiment with a few different types to see which ones you like the best and which pair well with your Vidalia Onion Dressing. Romaine, chard, kale and spinach are among the healthiest.

Wash your leaves: Fill a large bowl with cold water, which will help keep your greens crisp. Gently press them under the water and swish around with your hands. Lift them out of the water, rather than pouring, and place them in a separate bowl. Take the container you cleaned them in and pour out the water, rinsing out any dirt that was leftover. Refill the bowl with cold water and put the greens back in, repeating the process until they're clean.

Stay equal: It's a good idea to make the various components in your salad equal. You don't want to have too many greens, too many veggies or too much chicken/meat/fish because it may overpower the dish.

Marinate: Always cover and refrigerate your fish, meat or poultry, preventing bacteria from growing. Marinate your food in resealable plastic bags to save room in the refrigerator and for easy cleanup. Be sure to watch the clock - it's easy for food to turn mushy if left too long. Fish and seafood should be marinated no more than 45 minutes, while small pieces of meat and poultry go for about two hours. Whole chickens, fish and cuts of meat usually go overnight.

Raspberry Vinaigrette

A spring or summer salad should be topped with a fresh salad dressing, one that isn't too heavy and doesn't take away from the true flavor of the ingredients in the dish. Virginia Brand Vidalia Onion Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad Dressing is the perfect light, fruity and zesty topping for your salads, vegetables or fruit. The fruity nature of the dressing is both cool and refreshing - perfect for a light dish.

What to serve with your salad

Wine: Wine often pairs well with salad, but it's crucial to have the right wine to bring out the flavor of the meal. A dry or semi-dry riesling will bring out the best in this dish. They are crisp and fruity, which meshes with the texture of the greens and the sweet taste of the vinaigrette dressing. A dry rose is another option, as it is also similar in taste.

Beer: Wheat beers are perfect for this dish because they aren't too strong and won't overpower the delicate greens and refreshing taste of the dressing. Kawartha Lakes Brewery Raspberry Wheat Beer complements a summer salad with raspberry dressing perfectly and complements the natural flavor.

Ways to use your raspberry vinaigrette dressing

While using your vinaigrette to drizzle atop a salad is the most traditional way of using it, there are plenty of other delicious ways your dressing can be put to use:

As a glaze: This sweet and light dressing can be used as a glaze or drizzled onto your favorite meats, vegetables and fruit. For grilled chicken, combine the dressing with some balsamic and brush it on for a splash of flavor. If you're a vegetable lover, oven-roasted asparagus can be topped with the dressing for a fruity flavor.

As a marinade: This dressing is a popular marinade for grilled chicken. Take 1 cup raspberry vinaigrette, ½ cup chicken stock, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon rind, grated, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 2 finely chopped shallots, ½ teaspoon of dried tarragon leaves and black pepper. Combine ingredients and pour evenly over your chicken breasts. Marinate in the fridge overnight, turning occasionally. After it's done, you can bake or grill, being sure to baste with marinade every five minutes until the chicken is cooked through.

As a dip: Don't count out grilled fruit as a way to utilize this dressing. The fruitiness of the dressing is perfect for a sweet after-dinner treat. Stick toothpicks into your favorite fruits, like raspberries, strawberries and pineapple, and dip them into the sauce.
